RMO

On Sunday, April 27th, our beautiful bus arrived in New York City! The students at the Automotive High School have taken the bus and are hard at work creating our kick-ass Vehicle of Change!



We also received a grant this month from the Puffin Foundation for $750 to support our work. Woohoo!

On that note, we'd like to clarify that the ChipIn amount listed here includes money we had earned prior to this year (about $7,000) a big gig at Suny Purchase ($1750), and another big gig with the St. Pat's for All Parade ($400). So don't think donations of $10 don't count! We heart any support - fiscal, emotional, cookies.

We'd like to send a big thank you to everyone who has donated so far.! In the past month, we've raised nearly a thousand dollars!

One of our goals in this tour is to be completely transparent, so we will soon be adding a full budget and FAQ about the trip to our website. But for now, we wanted to clear up any confusion - the bulk of the money listed in our chipin ($8500 or so) is the money we have scrimped and saved over the past four years to make this tour possible.

So don't think we have million dollar donors (though we wouldn't mind if we did). Every donation counts - even donations of $5 bring us that much closer to our goal!

In August 2008, the Rude Mechanical Orchestra is taking our show on the road - in a low-impact, environmentally-friendly manner (no stretch SUV limo for us). We will be collaborating with the students and faculty of the Brooklyn-based Automotive High School to convert a school bus to run on waste veggie oil. Our goal is to go cross country for a two-week adventure, to cross-pollinate with progressive grassroots organizations and other amazing movers and shakers.

Please help us purchase and convert our school bus, and make this tour possible. We are a band of independent artists, and every penny counts. All donations of $20 or more will receive a free CD (please include your mailing address with your donation so we can send it out).

The Rude Mechanical Orchestra is a New York City-based radical marchingband. We exist in order to serve the efforts of progressive and radicalgroups and causes.

We have and will continue to play for events that support feminism andwomen's rights, the queer community, labor, the environment, social andeconomic justice, peace and community self-determination.

We pledge to fight racism, sexism, homophobia, war and violence in all its forms.

Through our music, we strive to bring joy and inspiration to these communities and to bring new people into radical causes.

Internally, we work towards being a safe, welcoming place for allgenders and gender identities, ages, races, backgrounds, sexualorientations, disabilities and musical skill levels.

Through our musical selections, we pay tribute to the world's cultures and the revolutionary role music has played throughout history.
